The course is designed to give those who attend the course an overview and understanding of how to assess water systems for the risk of being exposed legionella bacteria and documenting their findings. Participants will ideally have a prior knowledge of water systems.

Objectives

By the end of the course the learners will be able to:

  • Understand the background of the disease
  • Understand the requirement for risk assessment in the Approved Code of Practice L8 and BS8580
  • Be able to identify of susceptible areas within high risk water system in particular hot and cold water systems and wet cooling towers
  • Describe appropriate engineering methods of system modification to eliminate/reduce the risk
  • Understand the written scheme requirements in accordance with Approved Code of Practice L8 and BS8580
  • List the water sampling requirements and actions depending on the count identified
  • Understand risk assessment documentation
