To assist learners in gaining the knowledge required to carry out Authorised Person duties and responsibilities in order to achieve compliance with the requirements of the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989.

The course is based on the content of HSG 85 Electricity at Work Safe Working Practices and the specific requirements of Health Technical Memorandum 06-02 Electrical Safety Guidance for Low Voltage Systems and meets the criteria laid out in Appendix 7 of HTM 06-02.

This course is accredited by City and Guilds.

Objectives

By the end of this course learners will be able to:

  • Understand the requirements of Electricity at Work Regulations
  • Understand the content of HTM 06-02
  • Recognise low voltage equipment including switchgear and protective devices
  • Understand the requirements of BS7671 with regards to testing electrical installations
  • Understand the operation and maintenance of standby power supplies and equipment
  • Understand roles and duties of personnel
  • Work in accordance with HTM 06-02
  • Monitor and control of work undertaken by contractors
  • Determine cable detection, location and identification
  • Carry out practical exercises in completion of Safety Programmes and issue of Permits to Work and Certificates of Authorisation for Live Working
  • Complete logbooks and associated documentation

Experienced engineering staff with responsibility for the control, operation or maintenance of installed Low Voltage systems and who may be appointed as Authorised Person (Electrical Low Voltage).
