A two day course giving an introduction to wastewater preliminary treatment, covering the purpose, scope, methods, monitoring, maintenance and troubleshooting along with waste disposal considerations

Objectives

By the end of this course the participants will be able to:

  • Explain the purpose of preliminary treatment including: where it fits into the overall treatment process and the implications of not achieving efficient treatment
  • Describe methods for removing and handling screenings including: types of screens, types of screening handling equipment, operational maintenance requirements and troubleshooting
  • Discuss the principles used for grit removal including methods of removal, operational maintenance requirements and troubleshooting
  • Illustrate the methods for controlling and managing wastewater flows
  • Express the requirements for compliance with the Waste Management Regulations
Method

Mainly classroom based training with flipchart and practical exercises and discussion. A visit to a wastewater treatment works is included
