An introduction for non-manual staff to the skills required to lay water mains & service pipes.
Objectives
To provide participants with the skills to identify good practice in the installation, modification and repair of water mains & service pipes. Topics covered include:
- Basic excavation safety
- Pipe materials & fittings used in the water industry
- How water mains are cut, laid, jointed & repaired
- How water service pipes are cut, laid, jointed & repaired
- The reasons for water networks components and how they are installed & operated
- Mains commissioning
Method
Mixture of classroom and practical
Pre Course Requirements
Learners will be expected to participate in some practical exercises. Learners will need to bring PPE.

Support staff who interact with the workforce. Technical staff involved in the supervision of main laying & service laying projects who need a greater understanding of water industry pipelaying skills & water networks.
