Objectives
By the end of this course the participants will be able to:
Identify and select suitable pipe and fittings for specific tasks.
Inspect pipes and fittings for deficiencies and defects.
Identify risks and control measures relating to health and safety concerning pipe laying activities.
Work to a safe system of work.
Handle and store pipes in accordance with manufacturers guidelines.
Prepare trench bed for laying of water mains.
Select and inspect tools and equipment for pipe laying activities.
Cut pipes using appropriate cutting equipment.
Lay and joint ductile iron and polyethylene pipe systems using a variety of jointing methods.
Clean equipment and return to storage.
Method
A practical training course supported with classroom based coverage of underpinning knowledge requirements.
Pre Course Requirements
This course will be carried out in a safe trench, however it should be noted that learners will need to be competent to work in deep trenches before undertaking these activities in the workplace. Learners should attend equipped with the following personal protective equipment; Safety helmet, safety goggles, ear defenders, overalls, gloves and safety boots. Foul weather clothing may also be necessary as training will proceed irrespective of weather conditions.
