We also practise what we preach in this area by making sure that the next generation of our team get the best chance possible within our continuously growing business.
Recently one of our apprentices finished a two year long apprenticeship in Digital Marketing, and has been given the opportunity to continue gaining invaluable first hand industry experience with us here at Merit Skills.
The recent completion of Jason Manns Digital Marketing apprenticeship is a first for Merit Skills, and we hope that it will be the first of many to come. Here is what he had to say about the overall experience:
After being at college for a year studying business, I realised that this was not the route that suited me. I had never been given much information on what an apprenticeship offered and what I would be getting out of it, but I decided to look at what was available locally. This then led me to looking at Digital Marketing apprenticeships in my area. I soon found that there were hundreds of apprenticeships on offer that I could apply for. This was something that was great for me as I had plenty of choice.
Applying was a simple and easy task that took no more than an hour, and I soon got a reply from Merit Skills offering me an interview, which was a daunting prospect as I had only done this a few times and never on this scale. Fortunately, Merit Skills were accommodating from the start and soon made me feel relaxed and comfortable, which made the interview a very pleasant experience that will always be useful for me through me developing career.
A short amount of time later I was called back and offered a second interview, which turned out to be a very informal chat with my soon to be manager. I found this to be a great experience and it ended up securing my position with Merit Skills as I was offered the place not long after. Starting my apprenticeship with Merit Skills was a daunting experience because I had never done anything like this before, but I was soon feeling at home within the company doing a wide variety of tasks that have helped me develop myself more and more.
Throughout the year my colleagues supported me through my entire course work and I eventually completed my final piece of work and handed it in to complete my apprenticeship. I found that an apprenticeship was a great alternative to other options such as University, because it not only offers a recognised qualification but also offers invaluable firsthand experience that will benefit me throughout my career.
I hope that I will continue developing my skills and knowledge at Merit Skills for the foreseeable future and I hope I will be an asset for them while I am here.
This is a great example of what businesses can offer young people looking to start their careers and gain qualifications, whilst earning wages and not building up debt.
